Ha-Mechilah Gate Sightseeing

Ha-Mechilah Gate, Guy Street, Jerusalem, Jerusalem District.
One of the entrance gates to Temple Mount via the northern wall. An inscription on the gate tells us it was renovated by Sultan Issa in 1220. The Koran (Sura 2, 55-56) relates that its name is derived from the ''Mechilah'', ie: forgiveness.

The Shrine of the Book displays the Dead Sea Scrolls, some of the greatest archeological finds in the world. In 1947, earthen urns containing scrolls were discovered, apparently written in the days of the Issym.
